By the end of the first quarter of this year, the number of EU citizens applying for long-term UK residency permits had exceeded 6.5 million, according to the latest figures from the UK Home Office.
Currently, the statistics contain the citizenship data of applicants until the end of last year: accordingly, the number of applications submitted by Hungarians by December 31 has exceeded 160,000.
Britain withdrew from the EU on 31 January 2020. However, EU citizens who have legally and legally immigrated to the UK can remain in the country for the duration of their rights, until the end of the 11-month interim period after the end of British EU membership (Brexit) in 2020. But indefinitely, they have to apply for a residence permit, which is an officially established status.
The deadline, in principle, was June 30 last year. However, the UK Government continues to encourage beneficiaries to submit their application in any case, as the authorities will accept and process formal applications for the institution that meet the deadline.
According to a new summary released by the British Home Office on Thursday, 6,546,200 applications had been received by citizens of 27 EU member states residing in the UK as of March 31, and more than 494,000 had been submitted after 30 June 2021. Deadline.
By the last day of March, 6,271,200 applications had been decided; 827,200 since the June deadline.
With 51 percent of applications considered and approved by March 31, applicants were granted permanent – i.e. pre-settlement – status in 41 percent of cases.
The latter is available to those who came with the intention of establishing themselves before 31 December 2020, but have not yet resided in the UK for five years at the time of submission. They can wait until the end of five years to get a final residency permit. Until then, they have full rights to the rights they have acquired.
The UK Home Office rejected 4 per cent of applications examined by the end of March, according to a report on Thursday.
- 2% of applications were withdrawn by applicants.
- An additional 2 percent is not valid for some reason.
The database, which also includes applicants’ citizenship, will be included in UK Home Office figures until the end of 2021.
Based on this, as of 31 December 2021, 161,600 Hungarian citizens have applied for a permanent residence permit in Great Britain.
Romanians topped the list with 1,184,370 applications, followed by Poles, with 1,137,570 applying for UK immigration status by the end of December.
