A face recognition system has been installed in school canteens in the UK

A The Financial Times reportedSince Monday, nine schools in northern Ayrshire, Scotland, have been fitted with a test system with face recognition methods to quickly deliver lunch. The idea was originally caused by an infection because it could reduce the number of contacts, but it was believed that it would speed up lunch.

Like it Enkjet writes, Both Schools and CRP Cunningham promise to focus on privacy and security considerations, and the system will not only scan live faces directly, but will also compare pre-fed facial models with inbound students. Fingerprint reading systems are already used in schools, so this is another step towards complete biometric monitoring. According to the district council, 97 percent of the parents involved approved the organization’s operation.

At the same time, British organizations fearing citizens for over-monitoring and misuse of biometric data are not happy with the plan. One of their serious concerns is that introducing facial recognition at school will only be a routine thing, meaning that those who are accustomed to reading their faces as part of their daily routine will not speak out against it later.
