The DNA was charged against Colonel Radu Gabriel Todoran, Marian Corcodel, Danoy Rossano, chief inspector of the gendarmerie of the Giorgio district, close acquaintances of General Alain Mastan, the current head of the gendarmerie, and Colonel Valerica Gorita, deputy chief of the gendarmerie of the Vaslui district. Four other senior officers are also suspected of involvement in the case.
In addition to abuse of position, senior executives are also accused of:
They ran a criminal organization that offered test items to officers’ exam candidates.
According to the information so far, 6,000 lei (444,000 forints) of sergeants who approached the rank of officer have been demanded for money. Not only test entries but correct answers were received for additional sums. The Public Prosecutor’s Office found 12,000 euros in a search operation for the head of the gendarmerie in the Giorgio district.
The work began when the Romanian Minister of the Interior decided, at the beginning of last year, to solve the chronic shortage of the gendarmerie by raising the rank of officer to the rank of sergeant. To do this, however, the sergeant had to take an exam. Some gendarmerie executives took advantage of this and began selling test materials.
