The Page Report According to the results, the fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine may strengthen the immune system and provide greater protection than the first booster vaccine. In the UK, a second booster dose is currently recommended for people over 75 years of age, people living in a nursing home and people with compromised immune systems over 12 years of age.
We have shown that a fourth dose of Covid-19 vaccines can significantly increase antibody and cellular immunity if taken more than six months after the third dose.
Said Professor Saul Faust, Trial Director, Director of the NIHR Southampton Institute for Clinical Research.
The study measured the immune responses of 166 vaccinees who received a fourth vaccine, on average, seven months after they received Pfizer/BioNTech. Initially, each participant received either two doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine or two doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine. It is the fourth vaccine to receive the full dose of Pfizer/BioN Tech, while the rest are vaccinated with half the dose of Moderna.
The team analyzed data from 133 patients and found that 14 days after the fourth vaccination, the number of antibodies increased 1.6 times in those who received the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine and more than doubled in those who received half a dose of Moderna.
