Investigations are underway into space research firm Jeff Bezos

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into Blue Origin’s multi-billion dollar aerospace company Jeff Bezos after 21 current and former employees of the company wrote to the supervisory authority about safety shortcomings at the company.

In their letter, which was also posted on Lioness’s reported page, they claimed to have made more than a thousand observations about safety shortcomings on the Blue Origin rocket engine called New Shepard, after which they received no response. One of the engineers who signed the letter said it was “just up to them that nothing has happened yet”.

Perhaps Bezos wasn’t worried, because he himself jumped into space for a few fleeting minutes with this rocket in July.

The FAA wrote in an official statement that it “takes all safety concerns seriously and is investigating reports.”

In addition to security weaknesses, the letter writers also raised the issue that Blue Origin leadership is biased against women, with many managers and senior staff acting “consistently inappropriately” toward female employees. A Blue Origin spokesperson responded that the company maintains a non-stop anonymous reporting sequence and “urgently investigates all complaints” and “does not tolerate any harassment or discrimination”.
