The Swedish band’s Voyage, the first new song in 40 years, topped the British charts a week after its release. Four years ago, there was no example of a pop album selling more than two hundred thousand copies in such a short time.
ABBA’s last studio album was released 40 years ago in 1981, and topped the charts with nine previous ABBA albums.
“We’re so excited that our fans loved the new album because we enjoyed it,” the band told the organization that compiled the UK hit charts.
Another record was broken by Voyage, the band’s best-selling album of eight years. Finally, the One Direction Boy band’s Midnight Memories album made it proud.
With the exception of ABBA, Ed Sheeran and One Direction, the Adele 25 has only managed to reach 200,000 copies a week in the last decade, according to the BBC website.
In addition, Voyage became the best-selling vinyl of this century.
According to GfK Entertainment on Friday, Voyage reached a record high in Germany, selling over 200,000 copies and topping the charts. They have sold more than 100 albums on the German chart.
