Although circumstances have not been simple since then Strong winds made it difficult for pilotsRussell tried to make the most of it.
“I would say the car behaved pretty much as I expected, but under the circumstances, in such wind and rain, you can’t take much with you,” said the British driver, who came to the German stable from Williams.
“We are doing well so far and I think we are in a good position against Barcelona.”
When asked what the car would look like in the simulator, Russell replied, “Things are just fine with what we saw in the simulator, I’ll come back in the afternoon and compare things.”
But a continuous learning process awaits us. Now we’re just running the program, making sure the car runs, the drivers feel comfortable in it, and we’ll be in the best possible position against Barcelona.”
Although Russell has been able to drive all of the team cars as a rookie rider since 2017, of course Friday was a special occasion for him.
“I got goosebumps when the car was first started. I drove a lot, I did a lot of laps in the simulator. I saw a lot of drawings from it. I sat in a lot of meetings, but nothing like a racetrack.”
“I’m almost back to my roots – a cold, rainy, windy day at Silverstone, but now with the Mercedes Formula 1 team.”
