Improper shoes, goose foot, or perhaps plantar fasciitis, arthritis, a neurological problem, or osteoarthritis? There are many causes of angle pain and this is why there are so many treatment options.
Summarize this in a nutshell Dr. Marta Ilona DubusThe Pain Center Orthopedic specialist.
Causes of corner pain
The largest bone in our feet is the heel bone, which has a huge task: it must maintain the weight of the body, which has a serious impact on every step. No wonder then that this area is very fragile and can become painful relatively often. In most cases, heel pain is due to mechanical causes, but it can include arthritis, infections, autoimmune and neurological problems, trauma, osteoporosis and other bone diseases, as well as diseases of several organ systems.
One of the typical causes of heel pain is disease of the thick connective band that crosses the soles of the feet, plantar fasciitis, or plantar fasciitis. It is easy to overload this tape, causing its thickness to double – as evidenced by ultrasound and MRI. Dr. Dubos stresses that the symptoms that may indicate this are typical: the pain usually appears in the morning, then eases significantly later, but increases with a longer posture or climbing.
– Among the mechanical causes, the problems caused by uncomfortable shoes and walking in barefoot socks at home deserve to be highlighted. Insoles with flat, untreated soles, insoles, put a lot of pressure on the heel and even the entire spine. During prolonged wear, the heels are exposed to regular bumps, which sooner or later cause trouble.
If the pain does not go away, it is important to get a medical examination
Although heel pain often goes away when someone starts to wear well-designed shoes or if they rest or ice the area, there are still symptoms for which it is best to seek medical help.
“Diagnosis is only important to rule out some of the more serious diseases,” he said. That is, if the heel pain occurs not only when standing or walking but also when resting, or if it does not go away within a week or two, it is recommended to see a doctor. The examination should not be postponed if the patient is unable to stand on the tip of the toe, or if he cannot restrain his foot, or if there is swelling around the heel or foot, or signs of inflammation such as pain, redness, and fever. The cause of the numbness in the sole of the foot, loss of sensation, and tingling sensation should also be investigated, although the latter symptoms may require further neurological examination.
What can help with corner pain?
If plantar fasciitis is causing heel pain, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory therapy and/or shock wave therapy for 1-2 weeks may be considered. The first treatment may also be the use of customized insoles, and heel raises, which can relieve the tension of the plantar fascia, the plantar fascia, and thus the pain. It is recommended to wear silicone heels for 3-5 weeks first, followed by goose foot insole.
In prolonged cases that do not improve – if there are no contraindications – repeated local injections of steroids may reduce symptoms for a longer period of time. Additional treatment, of course, is a function of the specific cause, and arthritis and osteoarthritis obviously require it. Marta Ilona Dubos, an orthopedic specialist at The Pain Center.
At the same time, as a rule, you should look for the optimal choice of shoes, avoiding soles that are too high and too flat. If we play sports, with the right warm-up, we can significantly reduce the force of the load on the heels. In the case of overweight, it is worth trying to reduce it, as this will reduce the load on the legs and the musculoskeletal system in general.

If there is a deformity of the foot, goose foot, hump or hammer toe, a specialist opinion should also be sought, and special shoes may be required.
