There are many high-risk jobs around the world. An American study looked at how the world’s deadliest businesses were ranked.

The International Labor Organization and the World Health Organization published a joint statement last September. Researchwhich examined in detail the evolution of work-related accidents, work-related diseases, and deaths between 2000 and 2016.

Research found that in 2016 alone, 1.9 million people lost their lives directly as a result of work, and that a large proportion (81 percent) of deaths were caused by a disease directly related to work.

Interestingly, while the number of work-related deaths in general decreased by 14% between 2000 and 2016, the number of heart disease and strokes associated with long working hours increased by 41 and 19%, respectively. Therefore, the report stressed that increased working hours can pose a serious health risk worldwide.

That is, jobs traditionally considered hazardous require fewer deaths, and much more as workplace stresses increase.

However, there are still particularly dangerous jobs. According to US official data, for example, there were 4,764 fatal accidents at work in 2020, which is 3.5 cases per 100,000 full-time workers.
