Three out of four coronavirus tests were positive in Hungary in the past 24 hours

In Romania, in line with the increase in the number of coronavirus tests evaluated, the number of new infections detected in one day jumped on Wednesday, and health care was threatened by staff illness.

More than 34,000 new infections were diagnosed in the past 24 hours, up 74 percent from Tuesday, according to a report from the Strategic Communications Tribe (GCS) on Wednesday. The number of assessed tests increased by the same amount. In Romania, after a three-day long weekend, the number of coronavirus tests assessed in one day crossed 100,000 for the first time on Wednesday.

While 19,000 new infections were detected on Tuesday after 62,000 tests were evaluated, 34,000 were summed up on Wednesday based on nearly 109,000 tests. The incidence (proportion of positive tests) was roughly the same: it exceeded 31 percent on both days. Epidemiologists in the Romanian media have warned that with such a high infection rate, the number of cases per day in official statistics is already largely dependent on the number of tests performed and is assumed to represent only a fraction of the actual infection rate.

An unusual number of deaths was also recorded, at 94, on Wednesday, nearly two and a half times higher than the average over the past two weeks.

The number of people needing hospital treatment is now rising at the same rate as those infected: in the past seven days, the number of cases has increased by an average of 75 per cent, while the number of admissions to Covid hospitals has increased. by 60 percent (to 7,348). There are currently 692 patients with severe coronavirus who are receiving intensive care, a 30 percent increase from last Wednesday.

Currently, less than a third of hospital capacity for people infected with the coronavirus is occupied, but staff infection is a growing problem in the health care system, where infected staff remain at home even without symptoms: seven days for vaccinated people and ten days. For unvaccinated people, they should be quarantined for several days.

According to Digi24 TV news, referrals at Witting (Railway) Hospital in Bucharest were suspended on Wednesday also for the next four days in the Department of Surgery and Internal Medicine, where more than a dozen staff and patients were diagnosed with coronavirus. Witting is one of nine urban hospitals where foci of infection have developed. According to Digi24, the infection is spread mainly among nurses, who have a higher rate than people skeptical about the vaccine.
