Video: US patrol ship fires warning shots after besieging Iranian Nazis

The Navy’s Fifth Fleet stationed in the Persian Gulf said that two of its patrol ships, Sirocco and Choctaw County, had spotted high-speed boats of the Iranian Guard passing through the strait on Monday, three of which headed to Sirocco for a while. Then the path changed.

The Navy also released a video of the incident, which it described as “serious and tense.” Tehran has not commented on the announcement.

About 20 percent of the world’s total oil transport passes through the Strait of Hormuz to the Gulf of Oman and the Indian Ocean. Several incidents have occurred in the region in recent years between the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and ships of various insignia, and tensions are threatening the safety of navigation.

Diplomatic tensions between Iran and world powers have risen following stalled talks in Vienna to revive the Iran nuclear deal. While Tehran makes lifting all international sanctions on the Shiite state conditional on negotiations, a Reuters report on Monday warned the International Atomic Energy Agency that Iran was preparing to expand uranium enrichment despite the 2015 deal.
